Chennai Police have arrested actor Srikanth, also known as Sriram, after a drug test came back positive. The arrest follows an investigation that revealed potential drug use and suspicious transactions on his mobile device.
The Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) questioned Srikanth on Monday. Sources indicate that he confessed to purchasing cocaine approximately 40 times, at a rate of Rs 12,000 per gram. The investigation revealed a total expenditure of Rs 4.72 lakh for these drug purchases, made through Google Pay.
A subsequent blood test performed at a government hospital confirmed the presence of narcotics, leading to charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The case originated with the arrest of Prasad, a former AIADMK IT wing member, after a fight at a Nungambakkam pub. Prasad named Srikanth as a regular customer during interrogation. Testimony from Pradeep corroborated this, stating he witnessed Srikanth using drugs at various social events and that Prasad was the supplier.
Srikanth, born to a Tamil mother and Telugu father, was raised in Hyderabad. His filmography includes notable roles in ‘Manasellam’, ‘Varnjalam’, ‘Kanna Kandein’, and more.
