The research at Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) extends to exploring mango varieties with naturally lower sugar levels, such as the Bhagalpuri Jardalu mango, known for its relatively lower sugar content. The university is aiming to crossbreed mangoes to produce a variety with an even lower sugar content than the Jardalu mango. According to Vice Chancellor Dr. D.R. Singh, BAU has 250 different mango varieties in its collection, with several already exhibiting lower sugar levels. This initiative aligns with the growing preference for food items with reduced sugar content, potentially revolutionizing mango consumption for diabetics.
