During the 40th-anniversary commemoration of the Kanishka bombing, Bob Rae, Canada’s Permanent Representative to the UN, addressed the tragedy. Rae urged Canadians to confront the reality that the bombing was planned and executed within Canada by the Babbar Khalsa group. The bombing of Air India Flight 182, which occurred in 1985 near Cork, Ireland, resulted in 329 fatalities. Rae emphasized that this act of terror should be deeply ingrained in the history of Canada. He also acknowledged the continued support from Ireland for the victims’ families. Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also participated in the remembrance, emphasizing the necessity of global zero tolerance for terrorism.
