The first Test match between England and India saw India posting 359/3 against England at Leeds. Shubman Gill, the Indian captain, scored a century. Gill and Rishabh Pant were unbeaten on 127 and 65 runs respectively. Ben Stokes dismissed centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal soon after the final session began. India reached 92/2 by lunch, with Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal still batting. In the first session, Jaiswal and KL Rahul put on 91 runs in Headingley. England took two wickets in quick succession to end the session on a positive note. B Sai Sudharsan, playing his first match for India, was dismissed for a duck.
