A judge in Darbhanga district made headlines by ordering the arrest of a lawyer after uncovering a lie presented in court. The lawyer, Amber Imam Hashmi, is a prominent criminal defense attorney in the region.
Hashmi was implicated in a 32-year-old murder case, with three other defendants also involved. The hearing was scheduled before ADJ III Suman Kumar Diwakar. Before the court proceedings, Hashmi filed paperwork claiming to be out of the district.
The situation escalated when Hashmi was found arguing a different case in the same court. Judge Diwakar, surprised to see the lawyer who had declared his absence, questioned him. The judge then ordered Hashmi’s immediate arrest, leading to widespread confusion and activity within the courtroom.
Police then took Hashmi into custody. Another lawyer, Sushil Kumar Chaudhary, who was with Hashmi, was also taken to the Laheriasarai police station. There were reports of a physical altercation between police and the lawyers, including damage to Chaudhary’s clothes, though reports also suggest that the second lawyer was eventually released.
