With Angelo Mathews’ retirement from Test cricket, his remarkable career is now under review. He played his final game in the whites at the Galle International Stadium, concluding a career spanning over a decade. Beyond his impressive statistics, Mathews is distinguished by a unique record: he is the only batsman in the world to be dismissed on 99 and 199 in Test matches. This occurred during matches against India and Bangladesh. With 118 Test matches played, Mathews concludes his career as Sri Lanka’s third-highest run-scorer in Tests, with a total of 8167 runs and an average of 44.62, along with 16 centuries. He is one of the few Sri Lankan players to have played more than 100 Tests, alongside legends such as Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.
