A man in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, has been arrested by the police after being accused of subjecting his wife to horrific abuse. The man is alleged to have inflicted severe cruelty, including inserting chili powder into her private parts, burning her with a hot iron, and attempting to electrocute her. The incident occurred in the Devariya Kothi area of the district.
The woman is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital and is in critical condition. Police acted on the victim’s complaint and apprehended the accused husband, identified as Shatrughna Rai, aged 40. The woman alleged that her husband, along with his mother and sister-in-law, were all involved in the abuse. She has filed a complaint at the Devariya police station.
The victim reported that the abuse was triggered by her husband’s unfounded suspicions of an illicit relationship with someone from the village. She has three children. Her husband operates a beauty shop. She stated she was brutally beaten on June 13; her hands and feet were tied, and he attempted to strangle her. Her husband then burned her thighs and private parts. She was kept locked in a room without food for two days, while her in-laws did not offer any assistance.
The police were alerted to the incident by neighbors. On June 15, the victim’s brother brought her to the hospital. The police have confirmed the husband’s arrest and are actively investigating other family members implicated in the case.
