A technical training program was held in Patna to bolster bridge construction quality and enhance the skills of engineers in Bihar. The event was attended by Rural Works Department Minister Ashok Chaudhary.
Minister Chaudhary stated that the government is committed to connecting all rural areas with improved road networks, reducing travel time to the capital, Patna, to four hours under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The goal is to make Bihar self-sufficient and forward-thinking.
The training covered topics such as bridge design, soil testing, and construction. The program highlighted the significance of deep foundations, crucial for the stability and durability of bridges, particularly in locations with poor soil conditions or high traffic. Discussions also included load testing and safety measures.
The training also focused on the success of the Chief Minister Rural Setu Yojana, with plans to build 649 new bridges in the fiscal year 2024-25 with significant financial backing. A new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was introduced to ensure the highest standards in bridge construction.
At the event, officials provided guidance to junior engineers, emphasizing the importance of adhering to quality standards. Plans for phased advanced training for senior engineers were announced to enhance the department’s efficiency. Numerous engineers and technical staff interacted directly with technical experts.
The state has already finished roughly 2,500 bridge construction projects, while 950 are still in progress. The Engineer-in-Chief underscored the need to provide essential resources to all engineers and supervisors working on bridge construction.
