Jharkhand is tightening its grip on public smoking with the President’s approval of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Bill, 2021. The bill, initially passed by the state assembly, mandates a ₹1,000 fine for smoking in public spaces. This is a major escalation from the previous ₹200 penalty. The Raj Bhavan has also highlighted the prohibition of tobacco sales to individuals under 21, making it a punishable offense.
