The recent change in ration distribution mandates the use of an OTP sent to a beneficiary’s mobile to receive their ration. This process has replaced the thumb verification method. The distribution of rice for June, July, and August has begun on June 1st. This change is causing difficulties for ration recipients. To receive rations, beneficiaries must provide the OTP received on their mobile devices. Individuals without a mobile phone linked to their Aadhaar cards are experiencing problems, and have to call home to obtain the OTP. This new procedure is creating delays and has resulted in heavy foot traffic at public service centers as people rush to link their mobile numbers to their Aadhaar cards.
