A 19-year-old girl from Arizona, Renna O’Rourke, has died as a result of the ‘dusting’ challenge, a dangerous trend circulating on social media. The girl inhaled an aerosol keyboard cleaner, which led to cardiac arrest and, ultimately, brain death. According to her father, the cleaner was acquired by her boyfriend. The ‘dusting’ trend, also known as ‘huffing’ or ‘chroming,’ involves inhaling household cleaners to induce a high. This practice is incredibly dangerous and can result in serious health problems, including heart failure. Renna’s family is now raising awareness about the fatal consequences of the ‘dusting’ trend, and they’re encouraging parents to closely monitor their children. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with medical and therapy costs. This tragic incident parallels a similar occurrence in the UK in March 2024, where a young boy died after inhaling toxic substances.
