Following a fatal incident in Mumbai involving overcrowded trains, Indian Railways has decided to redesign its non-AC train coaches. This crucial step is a direct response to the recent accident, which resulted in several deaths. The newly designed trains will include automatically closing doors and improved ventilation systems. The railway authorities recognize the importance of addressing the problem of overcrowding, and the redesign includes features such as doors with louvres and roof-mounted ventilation units. The goal is to ensure sufficient fresh air circulation. The Railway Board also noted the plan to install vestibules to facilitate easier movement between coaches, thus aiding in better crowd management. The new trains are expected to be ready by November 2025 and will be put into service by January 2026 after the completion of necessary testing and certification.
