Following a fatal incident involving overcrowded Mumbai local trains, Indian Railways is taking action by redesigning its non-AC trains. The upgrade will include automatic door-closing mechanisms and improved ventilation to enhance passenger safety. The Railway Board has announced that the new design will incorporate louvres and roof-mounted ventilation units. Furthermore, the coaches will be equipped with vestibules. The updated trains are expected to be ready by November 2025, with rollout by January 2026, following rigorous testing and certification procedures.
