A wedding in the Vaishali district of Bihar turned violent over the absence of the ‘Jaimala’ ritual. A physical altercation broke out, leaving several members of the bride’s family injured. The incident was captured in a video that has gone viral, showing the groom’s party attacking the bride’s family. The violence occurred after the groom’s friends demanded the ‘Jaimala’ ceremony, a custom not practiced by the bride’s family. When the bride’s family explained their tradition, the groom’s party threatened to abandon the wedding. While the wedding went ahead, the bride’s brother was later assaulted at the groom’s residence. Upon learning of this, the bride’s father and other relatives were also attacked by the groom’s party. The injured were taken to a local hospital for medical attention.
