A passenger on a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru experienced an unexpected ordeal: being locked inside the airplane’s lavatory for the duration of the flight. The airline has issued an apology and reportedly offered compensation to the affected passenger, while the unusual incident has captured public attention.
The passenger was eventually rescued after the flight landed in Bengaluru. Ground staff and engineers intervened to open the locked toilet door, which had malfunctioned mid-air. The incident occurred on Monday night, with the flight departing Mumbai at 2:10 AM, delayed from its original scheduled time of 10:55 PM.
A passenger seated in seat 14D entered the restroom shortly after takeoff and was unable to exit due to a jammed door lock. Crew members attempted to unlock the door, but were unsuccessful. To comfort the passenger, the crew slipped a handwritten note under the door, instructing them to stay seated on the toilet seat until the plane landed in Bengaluru. The note went viral, generating amusement and commentary on social media. The flight landed in Bengaluru around 3:45 AM. The airline has since expressed regret and apologized for the inconvenience.
