Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given another big gift to Gorakhpur. Now Gorakhpur is going to be the first Forest and Horticulture University in North India, which will be a historical and important step for not only the state but the entire North India. The establishment of this university will not only bring a new revolution in the field of education, but it will also provide new opportunities for employment and skill development for the youth.
University concept and importance
This university will be 5th in Uttar Pradesh and the first educational institution for Gorakhpur. The special thing is that it will be the first university of its kind in North India, which will focus on forest education and research. This will be the second university in the country and the fourth such university in the world that will do the highest level of education and research work in the fields of forest, agriculture, environment and horticulture.
Gorakhpur is going to get another major identity, which will be important not only at the national level, but also internationally. The establishment of this university will see a big change in the education and employment scenario of Gorakhpur.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s announcement and land process
On 6 September 2024, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the establishment of this university at the inauguration of Jatayu Protection Center at Campierganj, Gorakhpur. The Chief Minister described this project as very important for the development of Gorakhpur and assured the administration to work seriously in its construction.
Subsequently, the administration has identified 50 hectares of reserved forest land and the process of building the university has started on this land. The process is expected to be completed by May 2025 after receiving the approval of ‘Land Transfer’ from the Union Ministry of Environment.
621 crore cost and plan
A scheme of Rs 621.26 crore has been prepared by the Public Works Department (PWD) for the construction of this historic university of Gorakhpur. Under this huge project, work will be done on 6 hectares of land for the construction of the main building and hostels of the university. However, the remaining 44 hectares of land will be converted into a green area, so that the environment can also be improved. The forest department sent this proposal to the government in February 2024, and now it is waiting for approval from the government.
New opportunities for youth
This university will operate degrees and diploma courses related to Forest, Agriculture Forest, Social Forest and Horticulture. This will provide new employment opportunities to the youth and they will get a chance to get special expertise in these areas. Also, through this university, research works will also be done in areas which can prove to be helpful in solving today’s growing environmental crisis.
